Product and Product Version RoboMon v7.6 for Windows NT
OS and OS Version Windows NT and Windows 2000 (all supported versions)
Software Components All
Brief Description
This article describes RoboMon’s system requirements and provides other information that should be reviewed prior to installation.
Full Description
MDAC

The RoboMon full installation requires Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) to fully operate. We recommend installing MDAC 2.1.2 (supplied on the RoboMon CD and on the Heroix ftp server) or higher before proceeding with the RoboMon installation. To install MDAC 2.1.2, execute mdac_typ.exe from a folder containing only that file.

Please note that MDAC 2.6 does not include Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider. If you install MDAC 2.6, you may also have to install Microsoft Jet separately. This is available from Microsoft at the following URL:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/
office2000dev/sp/1/win98/en-us/jet40sp4.exe  (this URL should be all one line)

When installing RoboMon to Terminal Server machines that do not already have MDAC, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q216149 for instructions on installing MDAC on Terminal Server machines.

RoboMon must be installed by a user who is logged into an account with administrator privileges.

Reinstalling RoboMon

When reinstalling Robomon, you will be given a choice concerning your existing Heroix supplied rules and rule processes. The default behavior in V7.6 is to replace them with the latest version on the setup kit. This will cause you to lose any modifications you have made to them, but will give you any enhancements Heroix has made to them. During the reinstallation procedure, you can change this behavior to keep existing versions of these rules, or to keep a copy of these rules.

Installing RoboMon on a workgroup

When installing RoboMon on a machine that is part of a workgroup, it is still necessary to provide a domain name, account name, and password for the RoboMon services. The domain name used should be the name of the local machine, as opposed to the name of the workgroup. The account/password pair must exist on the local machine.

SNMP

SNMP must be installed for RoboMon to be able to collect SNMP or TCP/IP statistics and to execute the SNMP_TRAP or SNMP_SET action.

If SNMP is installed after RoboMon is installed, you will need to reinstall RoboMon.

Before installing RoboMon, stop the SNMP service and any dependent services. After the RoboMon installation is complete, restart these services.

Installation

To install RoboMon for Intel platforms from CD-ROM, run setup.exe located in the robomon\NT_V7_6\Intel subdirectory.

To install the web-based Event Monitor from CD-ROM, run setup.exe located in the robomon\Web_Mon subdirectory.
Note: The web-based Event Monitor requires RoboMon V7.6B or higher, SQL Server™ 7 or higher, and IIS 4 or higher.

To install the web-based product interface from CD-ROM, run setup.exe located in the robomon\Web_UI subdirectory.
Note: The web-based product interface requires a full install of RoboMon V7.6B or higher, Terminal Server, and IIS 4 or higher.

Installation Problems

A file named RoboMonInstallLog.txt is created in the RoboMon installation directory (normally C:\Program files\Robomon) by the RoboMon installation. If you experience any errors or problems during installation, the contents of this file can help Heroix diagnose the cause of the problems.
