| Question |
| How
can I configure RoboMon to
display SNMP traps in the RoboMon
Event Monitor? |
 |
| Answer |
| 1. |
SNMP should be installed
before RoboMon is installed.
The Windows NT® service
pack should be reapplied
after installing SNMP.
If RoboMon was installed
before SNMP, reinstall
RoboMon after installing
SNMP and reapplying
the Windows NT service
pack (or see KB0066,"FAQ:
Workaround for RoboMon
and SNMP Installation
Order"). |
| 2. |
Verify
your SNMP configuration
by opening the SNMP
properties pages (you
must be logged in under
an account with Administrator
privileges in order
to configure the SNMP
service). On Windows® 2000
the SNMP properties
can be accessed by
right-clicking on the
SNMP service in the
Services tool and selecting "Properties." On
Windows NT 4, the SNMP
properties can be accessed
by double-clicking
on "SNMP Service" on
the Services tab of
the Network applet.
Once in the SNMP properties
pages, check the Security
tab to make sure that
the machine is configured
to accept traps from
the devices you want
to receive traps from.
Also verify on the
Security tab that the
community name used
by the device configured
to send traps to the
RoboMon machine exists
as an accepted community
name (the community
name is case-sensitive).
If the "Accepted Community
Names" box is empty
on the Security tab,
all community names
will be accepted. |
| 3. |
The SNMP
Trap Service must be
running to receive
traps. |
| 4. |
The SNMPUTIL
utility can be used
to verify that the
machine is successfully
receiving traps. |
| 5. |
RoboMon
can then be configured
to collect the traps
that are coming into
the machine via Event
Configuration Manager.
To access Event Configuration
Manager, select "Event
Server..." from the
Manage menu of RoboMon
Enterprise Manager.
In the network display
of Event Configuration
Manager, expand the
domain or enterprise
and then expand the
machine that will be
configured to receive
traps. Select on "SNMP
Trap Filter," check
the "Receive SNMP traps" box
in the right-hand pane,
and click "Apply." |
| 6. |
The RoboMon
Event Monitor will
then display the collected
traps in two views.
The "RoboMon SNMP Traps" view
displays traps sent
from RoboMon rules
and the "Other SNMP
Traps" view displays
all other traps. |
