To install RoboMon on your system for the first time from either a
tape or a CD, follow the steps below.
PLEASE NOTE
You do NOT need to reboot your system in order to install RoboMon.
1. Log into
SYSTEM on a hardcopy terminal.
Log into the SYSTEM username
on a hardcopy terminal, or
use $ SET HOST/LOG to create
a SETHOST.LOG log file. Installation
is quick and straightforward;
however, should any errors
occur, performing the installation
on a hardcopy terminal or
using a log file will ensure
that you have a record of
any error messages.
2. Check
disk space.
Verify that the system disk
has enough free space in
order to execute the installation.
Also verify that the disk
where you will actually store
RoboMon has enough free space:
During installation:
System disk: 50000
Product disk: 50000
After installation:
System disk: 3500 plus space for extra DCLTABLES.EXE
Product disk: 50000
These free space recommendations
are approximate and subject
to change; if you have any
question about whether you
have sufficient disk space,
please consult your RoboMon
representative.
If your system disk does
not have sufficient space,
you can use an alternate
work disk instead. Please
see step 4 below for instructions.
3. To install
from CD:
Insert the CD into the drive.
Enter:
$ MOUNT/MEDIA=CDROM/UNDEFINED_FAT=(FIXED:CR:9216)-
_$ /OVER=IDENTIFICATION DKA300:
$ SET DEFAULT SYS$UPDATE
$ @VMSINSTAL RM070 DKA300:[ROBOMON.VMS]
where DKA300: refers
to your site-specific CD
drive where the distribution
volume has been loaded
To install from tape:
Insert the tape into an
available tape drive. Enter:
$ SET DEFAULT SYS$UPDATE
$ @ VMSINSTAL ROBOMON070 MTA0:
where MTAO: refers to
your site-specific tape
device where the distribution
volume has been loaded
To use an alternate disk,
enter:
$ @ VMSINSTAL ROBOMON070
MTAO: OPTIONS AWD=$1$DKA0:[work]
where $1$DKAO:[work]
is the device/directory
VMSINSTAL should use for
temporary storage
4. Answer
VMSINSTAL prompts.
Answer the standard VMSINSTAL
prompts as you normally would.
5. Answer
RoboMon installation prompts.
Answer the following RoboMon
installation prompts:
Executables to install:
RoboMon will identify the
version of VAX™ or
Alpha™ that you are
running and automatically
install the executables for
that version. If you wish,
you can also specify that
RoboMon should install the
other available executables.
Disk device for RoboMon:
Specify the device where
you want the RoboMon software
installed. You can set up
the RoboMon directory structure
as a subdirectory under some
other directory by including
a directory specification
with the device name. The
directory structure will
be created with SYSTEM as
the owner.
PLEASE NOTE
We recommend that RoboMon be installed on the system disk. If you choose
to install RoboMon on a disk other than the system disk, then DO
NOT DISMOUNT THE ROBOMON DISK WHILE ROBOMON IS RUNNING. Be sure to
STOP ALL ROBOMON PROCESSES if you intend to dismount the RoboMon
disk without rebooting your system.
Confirm installation
of RoboMon:
Specify YES (or an abbreviation)
in order to install RoboMon.
The installation procedure
documents each step as it
is performed.
Once you have completed
the dialogue and confirmed
installation, RoboMon will
be installed on your system.
PLEASE NOTE
If OpenVMS HELP is in use when the installation attempts (twice) to
insert the RoboMon help, the procedure will give instructions so
you can insert the help manually later on. The help text will be
located on ROBOMON_PRODUCT: ROBOMON.HLP. If this happens, the disk
space used will differ slightly from the values shown above.
If the help library installation
fails and you are unable
to read the installation
instructions, you can replace
the help library as follows:
$ LIBRARY/REPLACE SYS$HELP:HELPLIB.HLB
-
_$ ROBOMON_PRODUCT:ROBOMON.HLP
$ DELETE ROBOMON_PRODUCT:ROBOMON.HLP
6. Log out
and back in if necessary.
After the installation has
been completed, the process
performing the installation
will automatically have access
to the DCL command that has
been added to DCLTABLES.EXE.
For any other process, log
out and log back in again
to access the new command,
or enter the DCL command:
$ SET COMMAND ROBOMON_PRODUCT:ROBOMON.CLD
7. Enter
license key.
RoboMon requires a valid
license key in order to run.
See KB3020, "RoboMon
License Keys" for instructions
on entering your license
key.
